Installing the Word 2003 Type Library

I have an application that directly references Word 2003 - it needs to do
this because it responds to events from Word.Application.

When the application runs against Word 2007 I get the familar "Method '~' of
object '~' failed" error.

One solution would be to install the Word 2003 type library MSWORD.OLB, but
I don't know if that is allowed?

What is the best solution for this problem?

That's not a solution, for two reasons.

1. It would probably break your license
2. It wouldn't work without all the other support files.

What is the best solution for this problem?

Work out where it fails, and change the code as necessary. If you post the
relevant code here we may be able to help.
