installing update for Office for mac v. X

Downloaded update. When tried to install the update, error message
showed, "Default location required for this installation could not be
found. This installation will be cancelled."

How do I install the update? Thanks for your help.

You didn't indicate where you had it installed. The default location is the
root Applications folder. You can also select to install in the User's
Applications folder.

If you have installed in the correct location, then I suggest using "Remove
Office" and install Office X from the CD and then apply updates. You should
have no trouble then.

"Remove Office" is located in the Value Pack folder on the Office X CD.
You'll need your CD key when you install.

Apply these updaters:

Office 10.1.2
Office 10.1.4
Office 10.1.5

Let me know if you continue to have problems.

I would like to add that a good preventative measure is to run Repair
Permission after each Apple update and for any application that uses an
installer is a good

To use Repair Permissions:

Open Disk Utility in your Applications/Utility folder.

Click on the First Aid tab and select Repair Permissions

Click on the icon for your boot volume.

Click the repair permissions button.



Don't run from CD as updates have a newer version of Repair Permissions.

Run Repair Permissions from the volume being repaired.
