Installing Visual Studio 2003 fixes COM Add-In

We've developed a COM Add-In to provide an alternative printing
feature for the company I work for. It runs fine on over a hundred
people's PCs, but for one user it causes Word to lock up
intermittently after the document is successfully printed.

However, installing Visual Studio on her PC has temporarily fixed the
issue.

Does anyone have any idea why this might be? Could it be a part of
Visual Studio that's fixing the issue and, if so, what could this be?
Finally, is there any permanent solution for this as well?

We're using Visual Studio 2003, .NET Framework V1.1 and Office 2000
throughout the company. There's a mixture of Windows 2000 and Windows
XP computers throughout the company, but it's a Windows 2000 PC that's
experiencing the issues and none of the other computers, (of either
OS), suffer from this.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Doesn't the Visual Studio installer run a number of other updates? The
prerequisites CD?
Something on there is probably updating the machine.

Try uninstalling Visual Studio (just the environment) and see if her
PC still works. The prerequisite updates will not be rolled back.
I would suspect that he PC would continue to work...and print
correctly
