Installing Windows XP Fax breaks email???

I recently set up the Shared Fax function in BackOffice 2000 and the faxing
feature in Windows XP. Faxing works beautifully. I can send email as well
(Outlook 2002). However, after I send a fax, email no longer works in
Outlook--I get this error message:

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'<<email address>>' on 12/8/2003 2:15 PM

None of your e-mail accounts could send to this recipient.

Microsoft Exchange Server first (Type: Exchange (Default)), Fax Mail
Transport (Type: MAPI) second. On
(http://www.slipstick.com/addins/services/winxpfax.htm), you mentioned:

The Help files state that in Outlook 2002 (which supports multiple transport
types within one profile) it is necessary to specify the fax transport as
the sending account from the Accounts dropdown in the new message window and
that in Outlook 2000 it is necessary to move the fax transport to the top of
the Delivery Order in Tools | Services. In fact, I have found that neither
of these steps is necessary.

I didn't need to specify this when I sent either the fax or email for them
to go through, but after I send the fax, email stops working. I've also
tried specifying Fax Mail Transport as the Account, but email stops working
after that as well.

Any ideas? TIA!

Of course. What I wrote referred using standalone Fax with an Internet Mail
transport. Exchange will not fare so well. It must be placed back at the top
of the Delivery order after you send a fax. Using standalone Fax with
Exchange is an unusual combination.

This isn't standalone fax, though--it's the shared fax software included
with BackOffice 2000. We are experimenting using it to replace our
standalone faxes so that we can forward received faxes by email, and fax
from the desktop. I have adjusted the delivery order in the past and it did
not result in working email, but I will try again noting exactly what
happens in the different combinations of configurations and scenarios.
Something seems wrong to me, though, that a change in the delivery order
would actually break email (requiring the removal of the Fax Transport from
the profile and then adding it back in). Is this a known outcome for this
scenario?

Also--after a bit more testing, the results are unpredictable. Sometimes
faxing will break email, sometimes it won't. I did a reinstall of Outlook,
so I'll see if that helps.

What I meant was that whenever Exchange is in the Profile that also has fax,
transport conflicts can arise which require readjusting the Delivery Order.
I've never seen it necessary to make those adjustments a non-Exchange
environment.
