Installing Word 6 from Office 4.3 diskettes

I've got Office 4.3 on 24 diskettes. I only want to install the Word 6,
not the other Office programs. But the diskettes are not labelled that
way. They're just numbered 1 through 24. Do I have to go through all
24 disks and install the whole Office suite? Is there any way I can
just install the Word?

Thanks for any help.

Here's the way the diskettes are laid out:

Disk 1 is set up disk
2 is something else
Disk 3 has Winword.exe
Disk 4 is MS Access.exe
Disk 5 is Excel.exe
Disk 6 is Powerpoint.exe

After that, each disk contains many files of all types

So it looks like all the disks other than 3 through 6 are common files
used by all the programs. So even if I just want Word, it seems that
I've got to install all these disks.

Is there any way around that?

Put in Disk 1 and run Setup. There should be an option to install just Word,
and you should be prompted for the appropriate disks after that.

It wasn't too bad. I went ahead last night and did it. I chose the
"laptop" or minimal installation, and then just chose Word and Excel. I
didn't require all 24 disks, about six were not required, which sped the
process up quite a bit.

BTW, since I'm only familiar with Word 97, which was my first Windows
word processor, it's quite interesting for me to be dealing with this
older version of Word, with so many similar features, but also so many
features missing, and dealing with it in the incredibly clunky Windows
3.1 environment. A travel back in time. It's for a friend who needed a
laptop to use as an occasional accessory to her Windows 98 desktop for
working on Word documents, she did not like any of the laptops on the
market now, but had a perfectly functioning old Windows 3.1 laptop that
she still liked. So I suggested to her, why not just buy Word 6 and use
that on your old laptop?

Thanks,
Larry
