Installing

15 months ago I bought my first laptop. I purchased Office Home and Student
2007 and installed it on the computer. Recently I bought a second laptop for
the family. A friend told me I could install the Office suite on 3
computers. But it came with only one product key. I think she's confusing
Office with security programs that come with 3 product keys. Can I install
the Office suite on more than one computer? If not, why not?

As long as the Home and Student you bought is NOT an OEM version but is a
Retail version, then yes, you can install on three computers concurrently,
in the same household.

I bought it at Office Depot, so I guess/hope that makes it a retail version.

OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer. Usually such software comes
pre-installed but it is possible to purchase OEM software separately.

Thanks for that info. I have one more question: My first computer crashed
twice. Two times I re-installed the operating system and then used the disc
I bought at Office Depot to re-install Office 2007. Does that count as 3
installations, using up all 3, or does Microsoft know that it is still on onl
one computer?

thanks again

No. You can re-install as many times as you like as long as it is on only
three machines at any one time...
