Instant Access not enabled.

At start-up of Excel I get a pop-up which states: "Unable to Find Quit on the
File Menu. Instant Access not enabled."

I can then choose to press OK on the pop-up, after which everything works OK
and Instant Access does work. I believe Quit is on the File Menu: it's the X
mark to quit Excel completely.

I also have an add-on icon which I can't get rid of (couldn't get rid of it
in Excel 2000 either), as it keeps coming back, even though it says it can't
come back and will be irretrievable. This add-on is for an old scanner that
I no longer use and have deleted (by using Control Panel, Add/Remove
Programs) from my system (Windows XP), so I don't think that can be the cause
of my problem. Have checked other add-ons with another computer (which
doesn't have this problem) and everything is set up identically to the other
computer.

I'd be grateful if someone could tell me:
1. How to get rid of that pop-up at the start, and
2. How to get rid of the icon showing an add-on which no longer exists.

1) have you looked for the add-in under the menu option Tools - Addin
and unchecked the box

2) Have you looked for add-ins in the VBa menu Add-ins? Type Alt-f11
from worksheet to get to VBA and then look under menu option Add-IN

3) Have you checked for any workbooks in the folder XSTART under
Program files - Microsoft Office. Macro in workbooks in XSTART folder
could be automatically run when you open a workbook.

4) Try opening workbook with macro disabled. Change you security
setting to Medium and then don't run any macros when workbook is opened
and see if the messae appears. this would indicate there is a macro in
the a workbook.

5) Try running the office tool repair application. Open excel and then
from the start menu find eith er Mcrosoft Tools or Microsoft Office -
tools and run the recover application utility.

I am receiving the same error message, but I don't have the add-in issue.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on with this?

I have Excel 2007 and there is no worksheet menu like the one you describe
that I can see. However there is an Add-Ins tab. There is no mention of
Instant Access there, either. Is Instant Access an Add-In? I don't remember
downloading it?

Microsoft doesn't know how to organize menus so you can find anything.
I thought Office 2003 was bad. Microsoft made it even worse in 2007.
Microsoft should hire some industrial engieers who specialize in Huma
Engineering (not monkeys).
