Instant Search problems in Outlook 2007 on Vista Ultimate

T

Toby Brown

I am using Office 2007 on Vista Ultimate and it seems to have a problem with
the instant search results being displayed within Outlook 2007.

I have rebuilt the index a number of times and even moved it to a different
location. All appears OK in the indexing status (both in Outlook and Vista),
but whenever I perform a search within Outlook it gives me the following:

“Instant search encountered a problem, while trying to display the search
results. Modifying your query may resolve this problem.â€

The strange thing is I can search the index by using the instant search in
Vista, but not within Outlook.

I can confirm this is the same for other users who log into the machine, and
that I have repaired and re-installed the entire office suite. It’s got to
be outlook specific but I am dammed if I can work out what else I can change.

Thanks for any help.

Was this a clean instrall of both Windows and Office or an upgrade?
If you search for a couple of words instead of a single one; do you get the
same results?

Yeah both of them are a clean installation in the last week or so.
One word, two words, one letter…all of the combinations produce the same
error.
Doe anyone know if Outlook has a registry key, or file location pertaining
to indexing that is separate from the Vista indexing options as I am quite
prepared to go in heavy handed! :)

Yup.

Like I said before, I know the indexing is working because the search
results display when using Vista’s instant search. They just don’t display
in Outlook.

I would be quite happy to rebuild the system and resolve the fault.
However, as I work for a firm that will be deploying Vista/Office in the
forthcoming fiscal year I really want to try and troubleshoot my way though
as many issues as I can.

Run a diagnostics on Office 2007 or perform a repair/reinstall and try
again.
