I have recently upgraded from Office 2003 to Office 2007 on Windows XP. In
order to enable Instant Search, I also installed Windows Desktop Search.
After waiting for indexing all of my emails to complete(at one point it
said there were tens of thousands remaining, so I'm pretty sure it's indexing
everything), using Instant Search returns zero results, regardless of what I
search for.
I've tried created a new Outlook profile, uninstalling Office and Windows
Desktop Search then reinstalling them, rebuilding the index. and various
combinations including Outlook restarts and Windows reboots.
I can, however, get it to return results by disabling "Cached Exchange
Mode". It is my understanding that Instant search requires "Cached Exchange
Mode", so I suspect this just causes it to fall back to old-style searching.
Also, the experience with "Cached Exchange Mode" disable is less than
desirable.
Please advise on how I can get Instant Search working with Cached Exchange
Mode.
