insufficient memory

I have been using this office 98 version for years and
lately I get this message whenever I save any
document "Word has insufficient memory.Do you want to save
Doc 1 as rescued Doc ?"

In an attempt to correct this I have reloaded office 98
twice and even reformatted my c: drive.Using system
monitor I have verified that I have ample memory.Using
ctrl/alt/del the only program running is word.
Any ideas??????
