insufficient permissions-office diagnostics

I will try again. When I posted a minute ago, it told me the website was
"too busy" and apparently deleted my post, so sorry if I'm duplicating. So,
I will RE-TYPE my entire message (thanks, MS).

I've installed MS Office 2007 (trial) on my 2 year old Dell. It's been
slow. I know, add RAM, which I will do.

However, tried to run Diagnostics. I'm being told that I cannot because I
do not have "sufficient permissions" to do so. That I need to access the
Windows event logs.

However, I'm the only user on this computer and I'm set up as the
Administrator, so I *should* have full permissions. I even tried to
reconfigure via Control Panel/User Accounts, but there was nothing I could
change.

Help. Please. Frustration is setting in. Rapidly.

The event logs are found by R-clicking My Computer, selecting Manage,
and then "System Tools", Event Viewer, and Security.

Thank you, Bob I, but that doesn't solve my problem; diagnostics still won't
run, because *IT* cannot read the event logs.

If you look at the Event logs do you see what the error messages say?

Yes, it says:

"Unable to complete the operation on "Security", The interface is unkown."

Thanks, now that I've really taken a look in there, there certainly seems to
be someting wrong;

If I select the event viewer in the console tree, it shows log files in the
window on the right. Specifically, it shows that the security log is 512 kb.
However, once I try to select it, either in the console tree or
double-clicking it, it gives me that error message and then shows that there
is nothing there.

All I am finding in the knowledge base is "remote access" being denied,
what is the exact phrasing of the error message that you receive.

When I go to Tools/Office Diagnostics, the error message states:

"You cannot run Office Diagnostics because you do not have sufficient
permissions. To run Office Diagnostics, access to the Microsoft Windows
event log is required. Typically, Guest accounts and user accounts with
reduced permissions do not have access to the Windows event log."

I am using an administrator account, and it is the only account as well.

What is the error message you get in Event Viewer. I believe if we
resolve that, the Office issue will resolve itself.

Another possibility is that some security software you have installed
may be causing this, by preventing access.

I've now shut down my security software (Blink) and I am still not allowed
access.

Thank you Bob I, because of your direction, I was able to solve the problem.
Events Log was turned off (how, I have no idea). I found the solution here:

Does this mean that the Office Diagnostics is now working, or the
original slow office problem is corrected? I have days like this where
attempting to resolve one problem is only successful after a cascade of
other issues is fixed first.

Diagnostics is now working. Office (specifically, Outlook) also appears to
be working much better, but that could be because I've removed the business
contact manager from it. Or, it could be because I completely
removed/reinstalled the entire office 2007 suite. At least now I can begin
to trouble shoot. BTW, Diagnostics found nothing wrong with the installation.
