insuffiecient memory error

Dan

Alright, it seems that this is a pretty common problem with microsoft word. So here is my problem, and I'm hoping that someone can help me.

I just wiped out my entire computer and re-loaded it with windows XP. Then I installed my copy of office 2000, and downloaded service pack 3( for office) and the related updates. Today when I try to copy some text from the internet into a word document I get the dreaded "insufficient memory error". This is complete nonsense because I only have internet explorer, msn messeenger and microsoft word open at the time (and I have way more than enough ram and disk space).

here is what is NOT causing the problem
* It is not a virus because I just reloaded the computer and haven't downloaded anything that possibly contains a virus.
* I have more than enough free sytem resources
* it is not related to riched20.dll -- I tired replacing that as per another post.
* the suggestions in http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/InsufficientMemory.htm
did not solve anything.

Any suggestions as to how to fix this problem ( and please don't tell me to copy a little of the document at a time -- my computer should be able to do this all at once with no difficulty at all. Heck, wordpad can handle the same task just fine -- why can't word?)

Hi Dan,

Unfortunately I think you are encountering application issues. :-(
Hi Dan,

More often than not Word 97 would lock up when pasting data copied from a web page. Word 2000 was a little better but it still had problems.

They seemed to rectify the issues as of Word 2002.

You might try using Edit/Paste Special and see if another format, such as RTF instead of HTML, works better.

When I used Word 97/Word 2000 I would paste in FrontPage and then copy/paste it from there to Word. I didn't encounter the insufficient memory errors but it would either take an eternity to paste or Word would hang.

I'm sorry if this isn't the answer you were looking for but it is an honest answer. <g>

Dan, I've having this same issue (though with Office 2003), where I am trying
to "paste special" just a few Excel cells and it fails with an "insufficient
memory" error message, though none of the listed possibilities appear to
apply. Did you ever get a resolution? (I am doing this for school, so I
can't just use a "workaround"; I have to use embedding functionality.)

I'd appreciate any assistance you can recommend.

Thanks!

Start Word in Safe Mode: from Start, Run type in

winword /a

and press enter. Word starts in safe mode. Now test copying and pasting from
IE and see if that works.
