Integrate Project Server 2007 with SharePoint Server 2007

Gerry (H.K.)

Hi,

I recently need to integrate a new installation of project server 2007 to an
existing sharepoint server 2007 environment. According to article "Deploy
Project Server 2007 to an existing deployment of Office SharePoint Server
2007"
http://technet2.microsoft.com/Offic...d7c6-4108-b6fd-7eba162a5b621033.mspx?mfr=true

It stated for every front-end web and application servers within the server
farm (sharepoint server 2007 installed) a copy of project server 2007 has to
be installed as well.

So my question will be is it possible to install these servers on a separate
machine?
I.e. Install project server at different physical machine and link to the
same server farm and will be able to use the Sharepoint server functions in
Project Web Access?

Thanks in advance.

Gerry:

You want to think seriously about installing to an existing farm because of
the requirement that Project Server must be installed to all front-end and
application servers. This means that you must have a license for each. You
might be better served running Project Server in its own farm.

Hi,

Does this mean that if I want to have a MOSS server and a MOPS server on
different machine but on the same farm, I have to install MOSS on the MOPS
machine and MOPS on the MOSS machine, apart from all the web front end
servers?

THANKS, GERRY! That response helps some but I'm hoping someone can help me
confirm my environment / licensing! Below is how my technical architects
setup our Project 2007 server:

Project Server has two components: an “application†service, and a Web user
interface (PWA). We are running the application only on corp-mossweb1, while
corp-mossweb2 and corp-mossweb3 are our load-balanced web front ends. During
the install on web2 and web3, the “web front end†option was selected. This
apparently installs the Project Server services on the boxes, but disables
them (I have just verified that, in fact, these services are not actually
running on Web2 and Web3). My guess is that they are installed so that the
PWA web parts can use the Project Server object model. This is pretty typical
of SharePoint applications – everything is installed everywhere, but only
turned on for the servers that are filling that particular function.

Since ther eare three servers involved, do I need 3 PROJECT SERVER 07
LICENSES?

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
