Intellimouse Explorer 2 - no zoom

My computer just installed the latest update for Office, now have
version 11.3. Now, the zoom in and out buttons on the side of my mouse
only magnify the desktop -- everything magnifies, and there is no zoom
in Word or Excel. Word documents start at 120% and clicking mouse side
buttons will magnify the page and the entire desktop. No way to zoom
out. Only way to change page sizes is to go to zoom from View.

I reinstalled original mouse drivers, and even downloaded newer driver,
did not make any difference. I am in the middle of writing a book, use
Word hours on end, and know for a fact the zoom was working just a few
days ago. The update has screwed something up.

Theres a new preference in the mouse pane of the system prefs to 'zoom with
scroll wheel' - turn that off.

Turning that off turns off any function to the side buttons. They are
set for zoom in and zoom out but don't do anything now. I don't want to
magnify anything, just want to zoom the way I always have in Word.
