Interactive Buttons - Hyperlinks broken

K

Karen

Using FP2003. I have created a website and used interactive buttons for my
links. I did a lot of changing my mind when doing the buttons and noticed
that the "overwrite image" button on the button properties dialog box was
often grayed out. As a result, I have a lot of extra button images. I
painstakingly went through them all and deleted what seemed to be
unnecessary; the website works fine.
When I view reports, it shows quite a few buttons with broken links. I
can't find these particular buttons anywhere in my folders. What should I
do with these?

Set the properties again, for each button, ie the link you want for each
(double click each button will open the "properties" dialogue.).

Note that for each button using the 'normal' 'hover' and 'click' states,
three versions of the button are created, and that means for each button you
have then you'll have three image files. If you change your mind about the
style/design of the button and make a different one it will create a new set
of images, the old one will still exist in the folder (as you discovered by
deleting them).

If you want to reduce the number of button images, use the two standard
"states" i.e. normal and hover (and not use the "click" state), that way you
reduce the buttons by one third at least.

If by broken links, you mean 'missing image - red 'x' ' then you've probably
deleted the buttons in your purge. YOu'll merely need to recreate them from
INsert > Interactive button.

You could also try double clicking the missing image icon (the red 'x') and
see if that brings up the button properties, then you can re-choose the
style you had, and type in the link and OK out of that, and it will reload a
fresh set of buttons.

Perhaps I didn't explain myself well enough. I have no "red x's" and all
the links work perfectly well when I use the browser view. Even the hover,
etc. is perfect.

The problem is that these buttons have shown up in the broken hyperlinks
report but I cannot find the buttons anywhere in my folders - I want to get
rid of them!

I had previously tried to use "include page" in which I had a lot of
interactive buttons, but it didn't work the way I wanted and I deleted the
page - wondered if that's where these buttons came from.

Did that. To no avail. I'm going to go ahead and publish since everything
seems to be working alright. I just wanted everything to be "neat and
tidy". These buttons don't seem to affect the site at all.
