Interesting behavior from Word 2007

J

Jay

I have Windows XP SP2 pro loaded. I loaded Office 2007 along with Visual
Studio. This is a very clean install, not much else there. If I go into
Explorer after launching any office 2007 product and closing that office
product, and then I double click on a document to open, it won't launch for
either 30 seconds or more, not at all, or until I launch Word by itself. Is
there anything obvious, or subtle :), I should check for?

Also, if I go into Outlook and I have it open and then start a web browser,
if I open multiple windows by clicking on links, after about 3, it won't open
anymore. If I have Outlook closed, it works fine. Something's rotten in
Denmark. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

PS: If I uninstall Office 2007, everything is fine.

Hello Jay !
You are not alone ;0)
I have the verry same malfunction , I am using the beta 2007 office pro
version , the other error that I experience : when I try to close the program
with the icon at top right of window , notuing happens , I have to right
click the display box on the task bar and choose close . Now what I have to
mention that after running the office diagnostic tool it reports no problems
(that is somewhat a conflic that would hve to be corretcted before I spend my
money on this program)

Since I've posted this, I've noticed a few other problems. Everything works
fine until I go into Word or Outlook, but once I do, other programs such as
Enterprise Architect, ICS, etc refuse to launch. They will sometimes simply
respond with "Unexpected Error". I launch EA, it works, I launch Word it
launches, I relaunch EA, it won't load at all, I exit word, I launch EA and
get unexpected error.

My machine is a Pentium 3.0GHZ, with Intel boards and 2GB of Ram running the
32-bit version of Windows XP with the latest SP. Some times gets so bad,
nothing launches, sometimes things just slow down really, really slow.

Hope that helps the MSFT guys figure it out.

Ya think???

The Office 2007 beta is a real beta. It's not like some of the beta
software you get from Google or other sites that aren't necessarily
real beta versions. They are more like a preview/trial version and
eventually they start charging (after they draw you in) or they offer
a basic version free and charge for upgrades.

The current Office 2007 beta still has some bugs that need to be
worked out and encountering issues when using beta software should be
expected. If that's not what you expect then you shouldn't have
downloaded and installed the Office 2007 beta.

Beth, do you know if this is a reported problem or if there is a fix
available? Or, where one might look to find out? I didn't see it in this
newsgroup.

Hi Jay,

Be sure to use the feedback tool from the link below to send your experiences, obeservations and issues with Office 2007 directly to
the MS Office Product team as well as posting here in the community newsgroups.

There are some cases where an Office 2007 install may replace or update a common/shared file to a version that would in turn
require an update from another program that accesses it. At times, this is from the other program relying on something it
shouldn't, at other times, it's from Office 2007 (being a beta) having a goof in a file.

On your question about has 'this' been reported to MS as a bug/known issue, you mentioned more than one problem, so I'm not clear on
which item you're asking about in that regard.

Do you get the same behavior in Office safe mode (hold control key when running an Office app). Has your template folder for
documents you're using in a different location than it was before installing Office 2007?

Off-hand I don't know if this is a reported problem since I'm not
exactly sure what problem you are encountering. Did you try the steps
Bob suggested near the end of his post.

I do know there isn't a 'fix' available. Again, you are using a beta
version. Any corrections that have been made since B2 will be
available when B2 Technical Refresh becomes available.
