Interesting Printing Issue

Hi guys,

This is my first post. I hope I'm able to get a solution from someone
here.

I'm using Outlook 2007 (default installation, no addins or anything)
and I've noticed a weird behavior...
When I receive a message that has an Image file attachment (either JPG
or PNG), I click on the message and it shows up in the reading pane.
When I right-click on the attachment in the reading pane and choose
'Print', it opens up with Windows Picture and Fax viewer (seriously -
no kidding).

If I receive a Text file as an attachment and I go through the same
process, it prints fine. I'm only not able to print when I get Image
files (only tested with JPG and PNG).

I mean I can run through the Photo Printing Wizard and next next next
'Print already!'. But it's driving me a little insane. I just want it
to print when I choose print y'know.

I don't think the issue is with the filetypes (in folder options).
But, I could be wrong. I just can't place why it's starting up an
application when it's supposed to be starting the print process.

I've tested this at my work PC and it does it there as well! I'm
wondering if anyone here has a solution for me.

I would really like it to print when I choose print y'know.

Thanks guys!

:)

This is a function of the application you have defined to open your JPEGs
and PNGs (i.e., Windows Picture and Fax Viewer) and isn't really Outlook's
issue.

Windows can't print ANYTHING except by using an application associated with
the file type. That application sends the file to the printer driver. If
for example, you right-clicked a Word document in your My Documents folder,
Word would open and print the document. This is the result of the ".doc"
file type having a "print" action defined for it, along with the application
having the ability to open temporarily, perform the action, then close.
Some applications (presumably the Picture and Fax Viewer) do not have the
ability to perform that type of action. Perhaps you could obtain a program
that knows how to handle images and is able to process a print action. In
any case, i't not an Outlook issue.
