Intermittent problems with Entourage

I'm getting multiple error messages and my isp Time Warner cable, blames
issues on Entourage. They say Entourage gets bogged down with multiple
accounts and times out.

Are they right?

Here are the messages:

An operation on the server timed out. The server may be down. Overloaded, or
there may be too much net traffic/ could not retrieve mail. Error 111
Time Warner says this is all on Entourages side, and Time Warner is working
fine. Entourage is timing out. Is there a setting to tell Entourage not to
time out?

Unable to find... (the current pop server name)/ mail could not be sent.
Error -17099

The server can't be found. Be sure mail server information is entered
correctly in account manager (which it is).......and your DNS setting in
Network control panel are correct/ could not retrieve mail. Error -3176.

All these problems I see every day, but are intermittent and cannot be
recreated at will.
Thanks

Kevs

Entourage handles multiple accounts fine. If you want to test your setup,
then put your accounts on different download schedules.

There is no setting. I've seen this problem associated with a single
message....usually a spam message. I won't say it's corrupt as Mail will
download without a problem. I usually use webmail to locate the message and
delete it there. Use tcpflow to monitor the traffic. This will identity the
message that stalls the download.

How to use tcpflow:

Download the Mac OS X version here:

http://www2.entropy.ch/download/tcpflow-0.20.dmg.gz

When you install, you do not see it.

To run the test, quit all other apps that might be connecting to the
internet like your browser, ftp client.

Copy/paste in this command in the Terminal:

sudo /usr/local/bin/tcpflow -i en0 -c

Now try to send the email and watch the traffic in the window of the
Terminal. You should see what is failing.
Unable to find... (the current pop server name)/ mail could not be sent.
Error -17099

See solutions here:

This error is not listed on the Error Page, but from the description, it
sounds like the relay error -17099.

Post back if you continue to experience problems.

Entourage does just fine for me accessing four accounts on four different
servers every ten minutes. I don't think your problem is with Entourage.

Thanks Diane. All over my head.
