Intermittently being returned to Home page in PWA

Hi All,

I have a number of users reporting intermittently being redirected back to
their Project Web Access (PWA) home page when trying to use the website. For
some users this happens infrequently (1 in 10 visits to a page) for others it
happens very frequently (8 in 10). It seems to only occur for PWA pages with
grid controls (e.g., "View timesheet summary", "View my tasks", " Project
Centre" ). I've been able to replicate the problem myself intermittently (2
in 10) on the "View timesheet summary" page.

I have read the thread "Subject: Selecting Tasks returns to Welcome Page ??
5/24/2005 11:35 PM PST By: Pirkka In:microsoft.public.project.server ".
What's MDAC and how do I check which version I have installed?

My installation is a Win 2003 Project Server 2003 SP2a single server
implementation, with users 100 Base-T ethernet LAN connected to the server.
The client machines are Win2000 and XP and kept up to date with maintenance,
users have been advised to deinstall third party toolbars. Client machines
typically run the MS AntiSpyware Beta1.

Does anyone else see similar symptoms? Does anyone have suggestions for a
protocol to eliminate possible causes?

Thanks & regards

Hi

I had same effects on server with PS SP1, so I've decided to install
SP2a.
Now I, ve got message (lang 1045):
Microsoft JScript - b³¹d czasu wykonywania error '800a138f'
'null' jest pusty lub nie jest obiektem
/ProjectServer/Shell/Shell.asp, wiersz 529
it means:
Microsoft JScript runtime error '800a138f'
'null' is null or not an object
/ProjectServer/Shell/Shell.asp, row 529

the same effect both on the server and clients computers

WTF?

MDAC 2.8: installed - reinstalled
No bars/toolbars
session state checkbox (in IIS): checked

Hi,

I think what you describe is a different problem to the one I'm posting here
about. See thread "Subject: Re: SP2a produces script errors 1/2/2006 5:49
PM PST By: Jason In: microsoft.public.project.server". You have to run
the script from an administrator account.

Regards,
Rowan.

You're right, but I've run from an administrator account -
unfortunately wrong database ;) ("old", archive one)
anyway - Thanks for advice.

Rowan:

Is this really intermittent, or is it only when you hit certain pages? If
the latter is true, then this could very well be an MDAC issue. If it
happens intermittently when hitting the same page in PWA, then I'd look at
network interference issues. To eliminate the MDAC possibility, go to
http://microsoft.com/downloads and search on MDAC. You can download both the
latest version and the version checker to verify your existing
installations.

Hi Gary,

Yes, truly intermittent. Repeat attempts will eventually successfully
display the page.

I will have a look at the MDAC info, thanks.

Are you able to elaborate more on the "network interferance" idea? What do
you have in mind?

Thanks & regards,
Rowan Patterson.

Rowan:

Latency on the network long enough to prevent the data connection or
anything else interfering with the data connection. I suppose an over-taxed
server could be the culprit as well.

Hi Gary,

It looks like we are making some progress with this error - search the
newsgroup for "marky mark" and open the thread entitled "Home page
redirection error"

Cheers,
Mark.
