internal data integrity error (type 4)

I have the same problem. It is a nuiscence and is definately
associated with new documents. I expect renaming normal.dot would work
however I am reluctant to do this due to the size of my customised
dictionary etc. What other avenues might I go down?

Usually this error means there is a problem with the file you are opening.
In this case, chances are it's your Normal.dot causing the problem since it
appears on new documents. First try using Open and Repair on your
Normal.dot. You'll find this command in the Open dialog box under the Open
drop down.

If that doesn't work you can rename your Normal.dot so Word will generate a
new one. Then you can use the Organizer to copy your customizations from
your old Normal.dot to your new one. To access the Organizer, go to
Tools/Templates and Add-ins. You'll see a button for the Organizer at the
bottom of the dialog box.
