internal error 2318

While updating Office 2000 with sr-1 I received the error
message "internal error 2318" and sr-1 failed to install.
I followed the instructions from the Office Product
Support web site and copied the following files from the
Office 2000 installation disc to the appropriate
directory on the hard drive: Ado210.chm and Msjro.chm

Everything worked fine until the update got to the disc 2
section and then I got the "internal error 2318" error
message again and the information above the "Return value
3" statement was different than any of those contained in
the table to resolve the problem.

Here is a copy of the 4 lines in the error log file
including the line with the "Return value 3" statement
and the 3 lines preceding it:

If anyone has run across this problem and has a solution
to it, I would appreciate their help.
