Internal error 2349 during installation

G

Gary McCue

I have just purchased a new computer to replace my
old "computer show special." My new computer runs
Windows XP. My old computer was running Windows 98.
When I try to install my copy of Office 2000 professional
SR-1, I get the internal error 2349.

I have tried to get help on the Microsoft website, but
cannot seem to get anywhere. One screen tells me that I
can get free help for installation problems. Another
page asks me for the product ID and a third page tell me
to go to Help About to get the product ID - how can I do
that if it will not install?

Further investigation indicated that my copy of Office
2000 Professional is only certified for Windows 95,
Windows 98, Windows NT and Windows 2000 professional. Is
that the source of the error message. Do I have to buy
another copy of Office professional - one that is Windows
XP certified? I am junking my old computer, so I believe
I should be legally entitled to reinstall my copy of
Office on my replacement machine.

Thanks.
