Internal format of Word Documents

Are there any documents that describe the internal format/organization
of MS Word documents. What I'm trying to do is find any hidden (or left
over) text inside of word docs.

Another thing that I would like to do is to extract a copy of any macros
in the document. Specially helpful if I need to analyze a virus/worm
without having to actually launch word and run the risk of being infected.

TIA!

You should the Word object model documented via MSDN to inspect and modify
document structure.
