Internal hyperlinks do not appear as blue in Word doc.

I have Word 2003 SP2 on Win. XP Pro. When I insert a hyperlink to either a
bookmark or a headiing in a doc., the appearance of the hyperlink text
matches the para. it is in (e.g., black Times Roman). If I click in the link,
the Format toolbar says it is Hyperlink char. format (blue, underlined). If I
open up the Format dialog box, it says the font is blue and underlined. But
it isn't. This doc. came from another source, and beaucoup hyperlinks are
Hyperlink char. format and appear as such in the doc. (blue, underlined). The
two hyperlinks I inserted do not appear as such. Nor do they format correctly
in other doc's. If I enter a URL (www.abc.com), it is automatically formatted
per the related Autoformat option.

How can I get the internal hyperlinks to appear correctly? Thx much.

Hyperlink formatting is suppressed on hyperlinked cross-references and TOCs.
AFAIK, there is no way to get them to appear properly. You can apply the
formatting manually, but it will disappear when fields are updated.

Suzanne. I am crazy... today when I insert hyperlinks to locations in the
file, the text is properly formatted. These are actual hyperlinks (to a place
in the doc.), not cross ref's. I could swear they were not being formatted as
a link before. Maybe I was too tired and the things that weren't formatting
were cross ref's. Anyway, it's aggravating that the cross ref's won't show
the Hyperlink style in the Word doc. We have used a custom style, "Link" and
it maintains after fields are updated. This is because the field's "Preserve
formatting during updates" option is selected. Thx for jolting me awake. ;-)
