I have an application that sends emails using ISO-8859-1.
When the emails are received using Outlook 2000, the
international characters (Danish) are sometimes stripped
out. When viewing the emails, the email format is shown
in the Outlook form title. When the Danish characters are
stripped out, the email format is shown as Message (Plain
Text) US-ASCII but when the Danish characters are
displayed, the email format is shown as Message (Plain
Text). What determines the email format that Outlook
chooses to use? Why does Outlook sometimes decide to use
US-ASCII?
BTW, if I view the stripped emails using the web client
(OWA), the Danish characters are always displayed. Also,
in Outlook the option for "Use this encoding for unmarked
received messages" is set to Western European (ISO).
