International Date Formats in Excel

Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Intel

Our international settings are Canada which is dd/mm/yy.

When I use Excel 2004 it only accepts mm/dd/yy as a proper way to enter in dates.

When I type in 24/12/09 (Dec 24) it doesn't recognize the date even though my international settings are correct. (formats as text)

I never noticed this before because I always use mm/dd/yy.

Any ides why this is happening?

Thanks
Rob

I just noticed next to my region (Canada) a yellow exclamation mark stating:

This region can only be used my Unicode applications. WorldScript applications will use the last compatible region.

I have no idea what this means, but I'm assuming this region will not work, which means Excel cannot use the international settings, thus defaulting to mm/dd/yy (US).

Is this right - can we not change date formatting? It is driving me mad having to use the illogical mm/dd/yy format!

Any tips on how to change this would be most welcome - i have already changed my system preference to UK, but this does not seem to have a knock-on effect on excel...

Have you quit and restarted Excel? Excel only gathers this information from
the system when it first opens.

I started this post. Shutting down has no effect. Our default settings are dd/mm/yy but Excel only accepts mm/dd/yy.

Take a look at my first two posts.

The message reads:
