Internet Fax directly from Word

This is driving me crazy. I would like to send a fax (to a regular fax
machine) from directly within word. However, when I go to "send to internet
fax recipient" I get the message "you must 1st sign up with a fax service
provider". The problem is I already have an account with one of the
qualifying providers listed. How do I enable this feature within word
without actually signing up for a new account? my service provider is J2
(same as efax) and they are no help. It seems this feature needs to somehow
be activated from within word and only the sign up process will activate.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Is this Word 2007?If not, which version of Word? And are you also using
Outlook, and if so, can you send to your fax service from within that?

As I understand it, there are two different kinds of Internet Fax Provider:
a. those that work through the Windows Fax mechanism and provide a special
piece of software that behaves like a fax printer
b. those that work entirely through e-mail and expect you to send an email
to e regular e-mail address that happens to contain the fax number you want
to send to

A brief look suggests efax/j2 is type (b) and, if so,
c. you should not need to install anything or configure anything in Word or
Outlook
d. in Outlook, you should only have to get the e-mail address right
e. in Word, you should "Send to"|"Mail Recipient (as Attachment)" and
provide the correct e-mail address (as in (d), rather than trying to send
via the "Send to"|"Recipient using Internet Fax Service" option.

I think...

I have the same issue. I don't use Outlook and have an efax account.
My previous workplace allowed us to send a word document via efax (whether
by add-in or not, I don't know) simply by selecting the "send to" option

As you can tell, I don't have efax here and have had to guess which way it
is supposed to work (see the message you replied to).

Can you describe what is happening now, or what option you do not see now?
If efax works by sending an e-mail to a special address,
a. you will have to send that e-mail somehow
b. it's possible that you do not have the necessary options in Word because
they only appear if you have the full Outlook. If so, then what you will
probably have to do is
- save your document
- open your e-mail client (perhaps it's Outlook Express), create a new
mail message, address it the way efax expects, attach the document, and send
it.

I got help from efax support with instructions for faxing from inside MS Word
if you already have an efax account. I have tried the following and it seems
to have worked (I haven't recieved the test fax back yet):

1) After you have created your document in Word , go to file menu then
select print.
2) In the select printer box select "fax with eFax messenger" or "eFax 4.0"
and click on print.
3) This will open the word document you created in the eFax messenger.
4) Now click on "fax" on the toolbar, this will open the compose fax window
with your fax attached.
5) Enter the relevant details and click "send".

Good luck!
George
