I just realized that Entourage 2008 appears to be stripping off
Internet header data on mail messages that are forwarded as
attachments. When the attached message is opened again (on a Mac or a
PC), the header is minimal. This is bad for me, as I have a spam
vendor (IronMail) who needs to see Internet headers on my spam
sometimes. Our mail filter appliances append (tag) spam/virus rating
metadata to the headers.
When spam "sneeks through" our filters, then we need to send them as
attachments back to our vendor for QA. This task appears to be
impossible with Entourage. Outlook, on the other hand, does keep the
Internet headers intact when forwarding messages.
My (mostly PC) users have been trained to simply forward spam messages
as attachments to a specific internal account in IT (then the spam is
dealt with accordingly by IT and/or our vendor). My workaround now for
Entourage users is to tell them to cut and paste the Internet headers
into a new message, but as you can imagine, typical users have no idea
what the heck an Internet header is (It was hard enough to teach them
how to "Send as attachment" - let alone explain to them what email
metadata is LOL) This doesnt work well, because our spam service needs
to see the full message intact along with the headers fo a full
evaluation.
