Internet launches when I start a MS Office 2000 program

My AT&T connection auto launches when I open Word, Excel
etc. How do I stop this? It is hard to get it to stop
trying to connect once it begins.

A suggestion I got on another newsgroup (but have not been able to verify
yet for my intermitent instances of this problem):

"If you have Norton Av installed try turning off the Office plugin under
options/miscellaneous"
