Internet Security Warning message

I just loaded Outlook on my computer and configured it for my e-mail.
Whenever I open Outlook to check e-mail I get the following error message:

The server you are connected to is using a security certificate that could
not be verified. The certificate's CN name does not match the passed value.
Do you want to continue using this server? y/n

I always answer yes, Outlook retrieves my e-mail and everything works fine.
It does this every time I open Outlook.

What is prompting this message and how can I eliminate it?

Specs: Office 2003, Windows XP, ESET Smart Security (in case that might be
causing it).

Version of outlook? Type of email acct?

The cause is new security measures and the fact that the certificate's CN
name does not match the name you entered in outlook. You can publish the
certificate locally as a trusted certificate and it may take care of the
warning.

IMAP or POP3 access? Have you viewed the certificate to see why it doesn't
match? Are you using a spam or virus scanner on your incoming email?

These questions are getting more technical than I can probably answer. I
believe the ESET software I have is scanning for viruses but I am not
certain. Second, when entering the information to set up the gmail account I
had to enter something that said "imap.gmail.com" which, I guess, means it is
IMAP rather than POP3 access.

Lastly, I don't know what the "certificate" is so I wouldn't have any idea
how to check if it matched something or not.

I set up Gmail imap and did not get the warning... so it could be the eset
server causing the error as the mail is passing through it. Try disabling
email scanning (its not really necessary as long as you have antivirus
running.)
