Internet Security Warning

A few minutes after booting up Oulook 2003, I get a pop up window with the
header "Internet Security Warning". There is the Yellow warning triangle
with an exclamation mark followed by the text

"The server you are connected to is using a security certificate that could
not be verified.

The certificate's name does not match the passed value.

Do you want to continue using this server?"

I searched the web for an answer and I was told to open IE and check the
security settings. I looked in the "trusted sites" to see what was asking to
be trusted and there was a site www.dh2.net which I had never heard of or
seen before and certainly never knowingly visited. The answers seemed to be
to accept and continue using the server. This does not stop the pop up and
it is getting very, very annoying.

Anyone have the same problem, or more importanlty, a solution?

Check your mail account settings in Outlook 2003. On the POP3, IMAP, and/or
SMTP server settings you probably have SSL turned on. The application
verifies that the subject name on the certificate matches what you typed in
as the server name in Outlook. If they don't match, a warning is issued.

Assuming that the subject name on the certificate matches what you have
typed in for a server name in Outlook, then I would ask, is the ISP using a
self-signed certificate? The reason I say ask is that the operating system
always verifies certificates back to the issuing certificate authority (e.g.
VeriSign, Thwate, .etc). If this check can't be performed, then a warning
is issued to user. To avoid, a copy of that certificate would have to be
installed to your system to avoid the warning.

thanks for replying but I came back to this post to add that I had found the
cure!

You are on the right track with your suggestion, it turned out to be the
Yahoo mail account I had set up in Outlook. Apparently they have withdrawn
POP3 from the yahoo.co.uk domain and just removing this account from Outlook
has stopped the message.

Yahoo.co.uk used an SSL connection so now access for me is only through IE
or Yahoo Messenger unless I feel like paying Yahoo for their service - pigs
will grow wings and fly before that happens!

Thank you for your help, I would have figured Yahoo after reading your advice.
