Intranet Question

Hello, again. This is a pretty silly question, I'm sure,
but I truly don't know the answer.

I need to set up an intranet (which I believe isn't hard
to do.) We already have an internet website.

My question is: what address do I use/how do I get going?

Pam,

Since you say "intranet", I am assuming you want it to be internal to
your company, and not available to people outside your company "on the
internet".

Have your network admininstrators setup a web server inside the network.
They will assign the IP address and name, and ensure it's registered
in the DNS (Domain Name Server) used in your organisation. They also
can ensure that it's located so that it's available only from within
your organisation.

If you have a server running on the private side you can
just install IIS on that. And then use a name like "home"
as the name of the site. Add a a record to your domains
dns server that points to the ip address of the new
internal server with a name of home.

If you want to use the same server and IIS installation as
the one you are using for the "public" web site than you
will have to create a website not on Port 80 and redirect
you internal clients to it with your DNS server.

Go to Internet Service Manager and right click on the
server which will bring up a short cut menu click on New
and choose Web SIte.
