User has Access 2002 SP3

For the past year whenever he tries to either open or create an Access
database, he is prompted for a Logon ID (it brings up his last name) and pw.
He claims he set no password and doesn't know what it is. He is unable to
open or create databases from his PC. However, he can go to a different PC
and be able to work in them with no problem.

We have run Wrkgadm.exe and rebooted. We have also verified Access through
his NAL (Novell) window which I think is similar to a Dectect and Repair. No
change. I have no experience with Security, so can anyone provide any other
suggestions? Thanks so much!

We also just copied the system.mdw from another PC, rebooted, and that didn't
fix the problem either.

Run it again. This time use it to join the default system.mdw workgroup.
Search the pc's hard drive for this file.

He's getting prompted for a user name and password because he's joined to a
workgroup where somebody (most probably him) joined a workgroup where the
admin user has a password set.

If you find he's already joined to the default system.mdw workgroup, then
open any db and replace his last name with admin and give the admin's
password to open the db. Once the db's open, remove the admin user's
password, close the db and he won't be prompted for the user name and
password anymore.

I don't understand "This time use it to join the default system.mdw
workgroup." We ran it three times against the only system.mdw file we found
on the PC. It seemed pretty simple to do and not much choice. You Join or
you Create. I don't know how to tell if he is "joined" to the default
workgroup. As I said, I know very little about Security in Access.

He can't open any databases from his own PC. He can't create a new database
from his PC. He doesn't know any password for himself, admin or anybody
else. I don't have the foggiest where to go from here.

I'm gone for the weekend but will check back on Tuesday. Have a terrific
holiday everyone!
