Invalid Hyperlink Address in Word 2003

J

JDH

After inserting a hyperlink into a Word document the address path
automatically changes from an absolute address to a relative address.

Following is the address that I first enter, which works ok. The I: drive is
mapped to a share on the Windows 2000 server:
I:\SharedDocumentsLinkedInEmail\ComputerPolicyMeeting0601\NetworkSecurity.doc

After closing the hyperlink dialog, the address automatically changes to the
following UNC path, which is still ok.
\\DRAMNT\SHARE\SharedDocumentsLinkedInEmail\ComputerPolicyMeeting0601\NetworkSecurity.doc

Once I save the Word document or click on the link, the address
automacitally changes to the following relative address, which is invalid and
does not work.
..../../../SHARE/SharedDocumentsLinkedInEmail/ComputerPolicyMeeting0601/NetworkSecurity.doc

How can I prevent Word from automatically changing the hyperlink address to
a relative format?

I have added the registry key recommended in Article ID: 890474 titled:
You receive a "The address of this site is not valid" error message when you
click a hyperlink in an Office 2003 document

This did not fix it.

I am running Windows XP Professional SP2
Office 2003 SP2

Thanks very much

Hi =?Utf-8?B?SkRI?=,

This is a developer group, for programming questions. Do I correctly understand that you're
looking for an end-user, not a programmed, resolution?

Go to Tools/Options/General/Web options. On the "File" tab, deactivate the option about
updating links on save and see if that settles things down.
