Invalid page fault caused by Winword

1. If I go to "my documents " when in Word I can bring up
any document and everything seems OK.

2. When I double click on any Word document, in "my
documents" when accessed directly or from Windows Explorer
I get a notification "This program has performed an
illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem
persists cjontact the vendor.
Details: WINWORD caused an invalid page fault in
module VBE6.DLL at 016f:650 ebeb3.
Registers EAX=00000000 CS016f EIP=650ebeb3
EFLGS=00010206 and quite a few others.

Have run Words, or Office repair, twice, but doesn't help.
Doctor Watson suggests that reinstalation may be
necessary, but what to reinstall and do I have to
uninstall some program first, and if it is Word can I save
the Upgrades I have installed from Microsofts sight.
