Invalid Page Fault when minus key pressed

I have Excel 97 running on Windows 98.

Every time I start to enter a value that begins with a
minus sign, I get an invalid page fault in Excel.exe

I've searched the knowledge base for similar problems, but
can't find any.

Anybody got any ideas?
