invalid path

I was working on a document at school and e-mailed it to myself so that I
could complete it on my home computer. I opened the attatchment and right
away started working on it. I save the document and was done for the day.
When I went back to open it the next day, right as I clicked on it in my
recent documents, i got a warning pop up that said my document path was not
valid. Is there anyway to recover it or do I have to start from scratch?
The document can only be found in my recent documents, not in my saved.
Please help me!!!

This will depend on your e-mail client among other things - the document
will probably be in a temporary folder somewhere (perhaps inside your
Temporary Internet Files Folder)

Use Search (Windows key + F) to look for it but make sure to tell it to
search hidden and system files.

Worst case, unfortunately, is that it has been deleted or overwritten - this
shouldn't have happened without you responding OK to a prompt of some sort
although you might not have realised the significance if you have options
set to automatically delete some temporary files.

When you open an attachment, it is saved in a temp folder. No matter how
many times you save it, it is still just a temp file and will be deleted
when you quit Word. The proper way to deal with attachments (for security
reasons as well) is to use Save As to save to your Word documents folder,
then open from there.
