invalid product key

bryan

I purchased a new laptop from new egg with vista home premium and purchased
microsoft office small business 2007 with it, they sent the laptop with vista
and trial version of office installed. I continually get the invalid product
key message even though I copy it directly off the card they sent. I have
contacted HP (who provided laptop) and they told me to contact microsoft, I
then contacted microsoft who verified the product key was valid but then
wouldn't help unless I pay them, and told me to contact new egg, and of
course new egg has no tech support what so ever, please help

B

bryan

yes, the trial version was for home and student, what I didn't say was that I
purchased two laptops and two copies of office. I completely deleted home and
student off of one and went online and downloaded a trial version of small
business, possibly I missed some small part of the original trial version?

Well DL, when you purchase office from new egg all they send you is a card
with your activation certificate, you get no cd, or any other means of office
origination, you must convert from trial version. Thank you for your help.

Have you double checked those numbers? An 8 can look like a B, D's look like
0 or O, etc.

yes, I have double and triple, and quadruple checked the numbers, I have even

read the numbers off to the microsoft rep. and they said it was a valid

New Egg may not have technical support but it does have product support if you
have problems. Yours is a consumer complaint. I'd get in touch with New Egg and
explain the situation.

It looks like that your systems Registry is "refusing" to release the
old serial number and whatever you do, you will not be able to install
again using your new serial number. I can only suggest that try using
MS tool (which was meant for Office 2003 NOT Office 2007) which some
people have managed to use it successfully on Office 2007. The link is
here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

When you use this utility, make sure you have selected your Office
product only - NOT any other applications!

Hope this helps.

If you purchased an OEM license for Microsoft Office,
then you must uninstall the current trial version of Office
and install the OEM version of Microsoft Office. If you
purchased the license only, you'll need to order the correct
installation backup media:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/backup/en-us/default.mspx

Microsoft Office Ready Computer FAQ:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/backup/en-us/faqs.mspx

Note: The trial software is not an OEM version and will not accept
the OEM product key you have purchased. The trial version will only
accept a "retail" product key.

I too purchased a ASUS laptop that had a Microsoft Office 2007 trial version
installed. I purchased a complete copy of Office 2007 Pro. I uninstalled
the trial version and tried to install the new legal copy but I am getting
the invalid product key error message. (Note: I also got it when I tried to
activate the trial version that was already installed using this product key
as well.) I checked the numbers and had my hubby check the numbers too of
the product key.

I got it from the Microsoft store! Brand new, never been opened. I think
there must be something with the laptops and the trial version loaded onto
them that is causing so much grief. Sigh....

Then you need to contact Microsoft directly. Make sure you tell them exactly
what the error message says. Posting it in these newsagroups isn't going to
Microsoft tech support. Now and then a real softie pops in but not often.
