Invalid Shortcuts

Since installing Office 2003, I get very frequent errors reported by Norton SystemDoctor for invalid shortcuts. These are ALWAYs related to shortcuts with the following format C:\DOCUME~1\DONALD~1\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Recent\"file name". The reason is always that C:\Documents and Settings\Donald Eager\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\0HQR81EF\"file name" cannot be found. I frequently purge my temporary internet files. How can I prevent these shortcuts from being formed and then becoming invalid?
