"Invalid string for template extension filter" error

I recently upgraded from Works Suite 2002 to Office 2003 Student Edition, and now when I click on "New Office Document" in the Start Menu I get the following error: "Invalid string for template extension filter". If I directly load an Office application, I can make a new document just fine. I've searched all over, and haven't found any information about this error message; I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me.
