Invalid use of null sender

I am using Outlook 2003 version 11.5608.5606. My email account is set up as a POP3 incoming and SMTP outgoing. The Outbox is empty yet when it tries to send emails, it shows that it is trying to send 1 of 1 and then shows the following error.

Task 'XXXX - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC6E) : ' The server responded: 553 5.3.0 Invalid use of null sender'

Has anyone seen this before and been able to correct it?
Any help would be appreciated,
