Invalid value for unrequired task field in activity plan

Gil

Hi all,
I cannot add tasks to Activity Plans in Project Server 2007. I follow
these steps:
From Project center page I click on NEW and choose ACTIVITY.
I fill all the data on Summary Information page, including some
UNREQUIRED project custom fields that we created.
I click SAVE and I am moved to Work Details page.
I add any number of new tasks, no hierarchy or links, just names and
duration.
I click SAVE and get the error message: "Invalid value specified for a
custom field. Please correct the values and try saving again".
My only option now is to close without saving the tasks. I can build a
team, and even publish the activity, but only if it has no task. If I
try saving with tasks, I get the error message.

We DO have some custom enterprise task fields, but NONE is required,
and from what I read in other posts (http://groups.google.com/group/
microsoft.public.project.server/browse_thread/thread/f6f898a6c2652c57/
fbea34eb6cd0dd33?lnk=gst&q=custom+field+in+activity#fbea34eb6cd0dd33)
I cannot add these custom fields to the activity`s Work details view
any way…

Thanks for any help..
Gil

Hi Gil,

Please confirm that you have no mandatory TASK custom fields, as that sounds
like what the system is asking for?

I remember seeing this exact error when we were authoring the first edition
of our administrator's book on Project Server 2007. The error was caused by
editing the Health lookup table and removing values from the Lookup Table.
One of the values I removed was the default value specified in the Health
field. To learn if this is the cause of your problem, open the Health field
for editing and then make the Default Value is specified as a value from the
Lookup Table. Let us know if this helps.

Hi Dale,
Let me share the result:
I don`t recall ever changing the Health field or lookup table, the
default value was "Not specified".
But, following your advice, I have changed the default value to be "On
schedule", and then I was able to save the activity plan! Yes!!
The even more strange thing was that I have now changed the default
value back to "Not specified", and I can STILL SAVE old or new
activities!

Once again I`m "Saved by the Dale"!
Thank you, Gil.

I am very pleased that the problem I caused myself long ago has now solved
your problem as well! The mystery to me is how I EVER connected the weird
error message when saving the Activity Plan with the Health lookup table!
You are more than welcome for the help, my friend. :)
