invalid xml in manifest files

I'm having a strange problem after a hard drive crash. when i try to
open some of my projects in visual studio 2003, it has problems
opening the infopath form. I get an error with the manifest that says
"An invalid character was found in text content". Basically,
InfoPath seems to think the manifests contain invalid xml characters.
Before the hard drive crash they were fine.

i had to have visual studo and office reinstalled. i have infopath
SP3 installed.

i guess it's possible that some of the manifests are corrupted, but
that seems unlikely to me.

is there something obvious i'm missing here.

any ideas are appreciated!
