inventory control using Access

Rob Laird

Hello, I'm looking at alternatives for inventory control, and wonder if
Access would be the right tool? It would be a fairly straightforward housing
supply (plumbing, carpentry, electrical, etc) inventory system. Goods would
come in via a packing slip when delivered. Goods would flow out via a work
order system where each job tracks supplies used, and when the work order is
closed, a copy is sent to accounting for processing. Supplies would be
physically organized into bins/areas which could all be labelled and would
all have part #'s.

Would you recommend Access for this type of inventory system? I've never
used it, but have heard I wouldn't necessarily need to use any complicated
VBA/scripts/etc to get something up and running. Any recommended approaches,
or helpful hints??

Thank you.

Don't forget logic for physical count. What about invoicing?

You could but it might end up being a lot of work. For me to do such
would likely take about two to four weeks. And I actually have to do
that logic shortly although it will be relatively simple.

You might look at Stockroom Inventory Manager at www.cms-track.com.
There is also an inventory control newsletter available at
www.inventorycontrolabc.com. Hope this helps.

Both of which are products you sell or give away. Whois shows the
technical contact to be an O. D.Williams on the one domain and CMS Inc
on the other. Both of the same address.

In the future please have the honesty to declare that you represent
the vendor of the products. That's the ethical thing to do.
