"invisble" workspace - How to delete?

Dear all,

I have a strange problem with Project Workspaces on of MS Project 2007
installation. Usually, we don't use these workspace on our system, but
in one case I decided now it would be useful.

When I try to create the work space (via the publish dialog or in the
PWA), I get the error message, that a work space is already associated
with the project. However, the work space is listed nowhere, so cannot
be delete to create a new one afterwards.

The workspace column in
PWA -> Server Settings -> Project Work Spaces
is empty for this project. Also
Site Actions -> Site Settings -> Sites and Workspaces
does not list any workspace that could be deleted.

How to I "reset" this association to be able to create a workspace again.

I suspect, at some point the workspace existed but was deleted
(improperly) ...

Thanks for any advise,

Riko

Riko:

As long as you know the site collection you're creating the workspaces in,
this should be fairly easy. Most people create their sites in the same site
collection as their PWA instance. So, you can go to Server Settings >
Operational Policies > Project Workspaces
Fin your project on the page and select the correct row
Click the Edit Site Address on the Toolbar
Enter the site address as "http://<your servername>/<your instance
name>/<yourprojectname>

This will reconnect the workspace to your project, when you're done, select
the row again and then use the Delete Site button.

thanks for your reply.

Where are those work spaces physically stored on the server disk? Maybe
I can look there and that will give me a clue of what's going on ...

Thanks,

Disk storage, that old concept? Seriously, these are all contained in the
databases, so the answer for fixing this is also in the database since the
last technique didn't work. Project thinks there's a site created yet there
appears to be none. The quickest way to overcome this at the moment is to
remove the plan and bring it back under a new name.

I tried to just change the name via PWA -> Project Center -> Edit
Project Properties, hoping that the WS would not be moved as well.
However, same problem exists with the renamed plan.

Deleting and recreating is not so easy, since the this particular plan
is a master to many others containing a large number of external links.
Those would have to be re-created by hand, I suppose. I'm afraid that's
not a solution ...

Thanks for you help, though!

Hi Gerard,
You might try the following command to list all of the WS for a content db -
STSADM.EXE -o enumallwebs -databasename<contentdbname>

then delete WS via command - see Technet article
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262877.aspx

thanks for the link. I dn't seem to have enough rights to execute that
command on our server, so I'll point out server admins to it and let
them do it (or give me the permissions).

I'll report back on the results.

Hi Riko

A simple non-techie way of solving your problem is as follows ( I am
assuming the old worksapce does not really exist and PS is confused):

Pick a project where you can create a workspace (Server settings|
Project workspaces) and create a new workspace
Edit Workspace address - copy url, then select remove the url for the
sharepoint site - click ok
Select problem project and edit site address - paste in previous url -
click ok
For this project select delete site.
This cleans everything up and you can start again

Unfortunately, this command returned only the known sites (and 1 unknown
:) but not the one I was looking for, so it also could not be deleted ... :(

but ... (see next)

THANK YOU!!! That did the trick. Now everything is working again.
