Invitations and other items do not arrive as sender intends

I have a problem with invitations to meetings not posting to my calendar.
Both the laptop (my machine) and the desktop (my husband's) are using Office
Pro 2007 and are networked using a wireless router. The laptop is running
Vista and the desktop Windows Media Center. When the desktop sends an
invation to the laptop, it arrives in text format. when the laptop sends to
the desktop, it arrives in calendar format and can be accepted or declined
using the buttons. Other items from the desktop also arrive in text format
rather than as the sender intended and as other recepients received them.

On the desktop, check to make sure that Outlook is not set to send to the
laptop in plain text -- choose "Let Outlook decide the sending format". To
get to this dialog box, double-click your e-mail address on the desktop
(either in an e-mail message or in the Contact record for you).
