Invoice Template compatibility Check

Cindy

I am a new Mac user and was previously using Windows XP Word 2002 I am now
using OS X 10.4.3 and Word 2004. I was using an invoice template from Word
2002 and transferred it to my Mac, when I try to use this invoice to make a
new one it looks fine until I go to save it, a compatibility check is
recommended so I do this. The results are that compatibility is set to Word
6.0/95 and recommends that I change the compatibility option to Microsoft
Word 2000 - 2004 and X in the preference Dialog box. I go to the Preference
Dialog box and from the drop down menu that is set a "Custom" change it to
"Microsoft Word 2000-2004 and X" I have tried to click "Default" to change
the setting or just "OK" either way on some invoices it says it says I
still have "1 compatibility issue" which I never can correct. Or "no
compatibility issues" and I save it, but when I either try to open it again
or print it, my right margin with the amounts and totals are pushed farther
to the right and out of line with the rest of the invoice. I have tried to
manually reset the "right indents" and "move table column" but the change
never stays when I save the template. Sorry this is so long I am just trying
to give all information and what I have done. Thank you
Cindy

This won't be much help with the detail, but for the saving problem, I
think the Mac version is different in that it will not let you save an
ordinary document as a template. I'm pretty sure you have to open the
template directly (not via project gallery) make your changes and save
it again as a template. You then have to create new documents based on
it by opening it through the project gallery.

If you're trying to modify an existing template then, yes, you have to
access it directly by navigating to it in the finder, not via the Project
Gallery. Once the template is open and you make changes in it, you need
merely hit Save to save the changes in the template. You don't have to save
it again *as a template*.

However, you *can* save an ordinary document as a template :). In fact,
one thing you might try, Cindy, is to create a document from the transferred
invoice template (via Project Gallery), modify it as needed to compensate
for the compatibility issues, and then save it as a new template. I don't
know if that will solve the problems you're having but it's worth a try.
(Aside to Beth R) I got halfway through writing that before I
remembered my little promised task for you on the subject of templates.
I'll get right on it if I'm not too late.

Lord! I had forgotten all about it. No, it's never too late so you can get
busy, Elliott :).

Cheers,
