iPhoto to Entourage: Why can't I see the photos?

C

There are two strange things here. Unlike Apple's MAIL, when I send
photos from iPhoto to Entourage to email someone, you cannot see the
photos while actually composing the email. Isn't there some way to
remedy this? It's very annoying to not see the photos you are trying
to tell someone about! MAIL does it well, in fact, you can type in
comments between each photo, making very specific comments. Isn't this
possible in Entourage? (And if not, what a goof!)

To get around the above problem, I will sometimes save the email (with
photos already attached) as a draft. Then I can open it again and see
the pictures. BUT I still can't type from this photo-visible stage,
and if I double-click in order to edit, invariably, every other photo
chnages into an unable-to-display icon (the small white box with the
red X in it)! So half my photos get zapped and don't send correctly.

HELP, PLEASE! -Codito

There is an AppleScript that attempts to mimic this
behavior...unfortunately, sitting at a Windows laptop, I don't have any
tangible information on it.

However, as always, Macscripters would be a good place to start.

Conversely, I really wish Entourage would provide more mail services to
ther applications. For example, you cannot use Safari's Mail
functionality with Entourage, and I have all kinds of problems mailing
from FileMaker 8.

What really annoys me are otherwise excellent applications like
NoteTaker, StickyBrain, and NoteBook have little to no integration with
Entourage. For example, StickyBrain allows you link notes with contacts
- from Apple's Address Book. I would absolutely LOVE the ability to
create a Task, Calendar Event, or Note from one of these applications.
If anyone has used Microsoft's OneNote on Windows, naturally it
integrates better with Outlook, but OneNote's metaphor isn't as simple
as NoteTaker et al.

And even major applications like Adobe Acrobat don't use the Entourage
Address Book (when creating PDF review sessions). This is far more than
inconvenience; it REQUIRES me to sync to Apple's version.

What I don't understand is, if an application like LaunchBar is able to
read and index the Entourage Address Book...why can't these other
applications??? What is it that technical reason?

That's just the way that entourage works - it will not encode the attachment
until the message is sent, or saved as draft. The message display engine
will not display in-line data unless it is reading genuine message source.

Iphoto creates the message with the photos attached, not embedded in an HTML
mail. Therefore the display you see when the message is received is the main
message with the photo's displayed in the message window after the message
body. This means you cannot put text between the photos (or shouldn't be
able to - there's something weird going on that appears to let you, but it
is only an effect, not actual interspersed text).

To write between photos, you would need to use an HTML message with the
photos embedded, rather than attached. This may be do-able by script, in
which case it may be possible to write a plugin to replace the built in
entourage export function. I would need to look into this...
