IRM and Permissions

Greetings

I am confused. I would like to trial using IRM to protect email messages. I
read online that it is available in Office Pro, and that all I need is a .Net
Passport.

Great. Then what?

I have Office 2003 Professional Edition, SP1. I do not already have a
Permission button on my toolbar. The only info I can find online says that I
can "log on to the IRM service with your Passport credentials" and other
statements to the effect that I *can* do this, but not *how*.

I have a Passport. I want to use Permissions. Can someone please tell me
what I'm missing?

To expand on what Lee-Anne said, before you can create a protected message, you will need to install the Rights Management Client software from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=18134. If you still don't see the Permissions button or menu command on a new message, then try resetting the toolbars and menus.

The first time you use the Permissions button, you will be prompted to sign up with the Passport-related rights management server. There is no fee for this, at present, but it is also not guaranteed to be available at all times.

Thanks for the link. I have this installed now, it shows in add/remove
programs. I've rebooted. I still don't have Permissions in the menu or
toolbars. I've gone to customize toolbar and clicked Reset for Standard and
Menu, is that what you meant? I still don't have Permissions.

Perhaps I don't have the right version or something? When I go Help - About,
I get:

Microsoft (R) Office Outlook(R) 2003 (11.6359.6360) SP1
Part of Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003

I should mention this is a work PC and behind a firewall, which might affect
using IRM, but shouldn't affect whether the toolbar button shows up, should
it?

If it's a work PC, the administrator may have disabled the RM capabilities.
