IRR - #NUM error

I'm using the IRR function for a string of 36 monthly cash flows. In some instances the formula works great and in others I get a #NUM response. I've also tried condensing my 36 monthly cash flows to 12 quarterly cash flows but end up with the same result. Although part of a larger function, the formula I use is as follows: IRR(1+F124)^12-1.

I've heard that sometimes Excel gets confused when there are two possible IRR's for a given set of cash flows. I do not know if that is the case here or not.

Any suggestions for fixing this problem?
